The internet isn’t short on health information. It’s short on information that actually helps you figure out what to believe.
That’s why I started Truth or Hype.
I’m Dan Brown. I dig into telehealth treatments, providers, and pricing so you don’t have to — and so you don’t end up overpaying or getting talked into something by flashy marketing.
Why Truth or Hype Exists
Shopping for healthcare online is confusing. One provider advertises a price, another advertises something way lower, and you’re left wondering what’s actually included. Membership fees. Medication costs. Insurance. Eligibility. Half the time the real answer is buried a few clicks past the headline.
And then there’s the language: “affordable,” “clinically proven,” “starting at $99.” Technically true, sometimes — but rarely the whole story.
Truth or Hype exists to look past the headline and figure out what’s actually going on.
What We Cover
Right now we’re mostly focused on GLP-1 weight-management treatments and the telehealth companies offering them — things like:
- What a price actually includes
- Brand-name vs. compounded medications
- Insurance vs. cash pay
- How providers differ
- Whether the evidence backs up the claims
- What to ask before you enroll
- Policy and regulation changes that affect you
We’ll expand into other areas of telehealth as we grow.
Our Approach
Cut through the marketing, follow the evidence, and give you the information I’d want if I were the one making the decision.
We’re not here to tell you which company to pick — there isn’t one “best” answer for everyone. We just want the differences to actually be visible, so you know what you’re choosing.
Who’s Behind This
I’m not a doctor or pharmacist, and I’m not pretending to be one. I’m a researcher and consumer advocate.
Before this, I was a U.S. Army Ranger and a firefighter. Both jobs taught me to trust evidence over talk, ask questions when something doesn’t add up, and admit when I don’t know something yet. That’s the standard I hold this site to.
How We Research
We pull from government agencies, medical literature, official prescribing info, provider websites and pricing pages, and other credible sources — and we try to keep things updated as they change. When we’re wrong, we fix it.
How This Site Makes Money
Some links here are affiliate links — if you click through and sign up for something, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. That support keeps the lights on, but it doesn’t buy a good review. If something has a downside worth knowing, we’re telling you about it.
What We Are (and Aren’t)
We’re an independent consumer information site — not a provider, pharmacy, or insurer. We don’t diagnose or prescribe. Think of us as the person next to you asking, “Okay, but what does that actually mean for me?”
Our Promise
We won’t get everything perfect — healthcare changes fast. But we’ll always try to separate fact from marketing, tell you about the downsides and not just the upsides, disclose when we earn money, and correct mistakes when we find them.
